Interlinking Disaster Risk Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDRM)

The project has strengthened disaster risk reduction (DRR) capacities at all government levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with focus on vulnerable categories.

The project put in place legal and policy frameworks to support implementation of disaster and climate risk management measures.

The main project activities are:

Flagship results achieved thus far include: 

  1. Methodology for disaster response capacity data collection at all government levels was developed and accepted by all stakeholders. 
  2. Disaster Response Assessment and Roadmap for Bosnia and Herzegovina was completed and published.
  3. The Rulebook on the content and process of keeping records about members of the Civil Protection Directorate of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and the Rulebook on the organization and functioning of operational and communication centers for Civil Protection in the FBiH were adopted.
  4. Recommendations to the new Laws on the System of Protection and Rescue and Civil Protection of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Republika Srpska were provided.
  5. The Disaster Risk Analysis System (DRAS) has been improved and updated with two new hazards (earthquakes and mine-suspected areas).
  6. Flood, landslides and earthquake hazard maps have been developed and updated to DRAS for all 5 beneficiary local governments.
  7. Land-use data for all 5 beneficiary local governments have been completed and updated to DRAS.
  8. Small-scale interventions have been implemented for the local governments of: Zvornik, Lukavac, Laktaši, Maglaj and Doboj.
  9. Disaster Risk Reduction Declaration was signed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, UNDP, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Civil Protection Directorate of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Civil Protection Directorate of Republika Srpska and mayors of 7 beneficiary local governments.
