Economic Governance for Growth (EGG)

Holistic economic governance intervention aimed at creating the necessary preconditions to move towards a future-facing economy in BiH.

The project employs a process of exhaustive budgetary reviews to identify savings and untapped revenues in order to increase public funding available for development projects. In parallel, EGG works with local and cantonal governments to design and implement economic incentive programs that target promising industries. Finally, the project works to create a better talent pipeline for the BiH economy by introducing modern learning technologies and techniques at elementary and high school levels.

Thus far 15 schools have been equipped with STEM and fab-lab facilities with another five in the pipeline. In-depth fiscal reviews of two cantons and two local governments have been implemented with some 14 million KM in savings and additional revenues identified. A nation-wide study of the automotive sector, as one of the two most promising industries in BiH, has been completed in cooperation with the chambers of commerce and will be presented in October - a study of the IT sector is also ongoing.  A working group for the development of entrepreneurship curricula for vocational schools has been established with a new program expected to be completed in time for the next school year. A start-up support program has been designed and is being delivered in line with the relevant EU guidelines, targeting promising industries and bringing together key players. The scheme is expected to generate some 55 new businesses.
